| dc.description | In this article, some approaches are proposed for the definition of the concept of environmental communication, as a contribution to the theoretical body of this field, which guides the transforming capacity of communication to promote the emergence of new values and social attitudes towards the environment, in order to to recover the role of culture as an adaptation strategy to the environmental problems of the time. Weaknesses were identified in the work of environmental education, such as the insufficient use of tools and communication media and not considering the people with the greatest negative impact on the environment as the main target audience. It is concluded in the investigation that the educational messages are insufficient and not effective; Likewise, a communicative model focused on effects prevails, which does not weigh dialogue and exchange. However, many vital areas for biodiversity are still not protected, there are species and habitats of great importance that are poorly represented, and management that enhances the effectiveness of protected areas is necessary. | es_ES |

| dc.description.abstract | En este artículo se plantean algunas aproximaciones para la definición del concepto de comunicación ambiental, como aportación al cuerpo teórico de este campo, que orienta la capacidad transformadora de la comunicación a impulsar el surgimiento de nuevos valores y actitudes sociales hacia el medio ambiente, a fin de recuperar la función de la cultura como estrategia de adaptación frente a los problemas ambientales de la época. Se identificaron debilidades en la labor de educación ambiental, tales como la insuficiente utilización de las herramientas y los medios de comunicación y el no considerarse como principal público meta a las personas con mayor incidencia negativa en el medioambiente. Se concluye en la investigación que los mensajes educativos son insuficientes y no efectivos; asimismo, prevalece un modelo comunicativo centrado en los efectos, que no pondera el diálogo y el intercambio. Sin embargo, aún muchas áreas vitales para la biodiversidad no están protegidas, existen especies y hábitats de gran importancia que se encuentran poco representados y se hace necesario una gestión que potencie la eficacia de las áreas protegidas. | es_ES |
